Well, he's back. After 19 years of waiting, "Jonesy" is finally back. Grab your whip, grab your gun, and grab your hat all and one. Because the one and only Indiana Jones is finally back on the silver screen. And nobody can say that they didn't miss him.
Now, I am not the biggest Indiana Jones fan in the world. In fact, I would rarely call myself a fan at all, not that I dislike the series. The first film was, by all means, excellent, and the second one wasn't. But, that doesn't mean the third one was a failure. So, all and all, I have enjoyed Indiana Jones and his anticts over the years. Whether it's his smile, or his charm, or his remarkable way of escaping danger. Mostly noted in the opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
And it seems that all these factors come back to play in The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. But, putting that aside, that doesn't really make it a good or great film.
The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull centers around Indy and a new villian named Irina Spalko, a member of the Soviet Union sent to track down the legendary crystal and it's origin using the help of Mr. Jones. But things don't go as planned and Indy's life gets a whole lot more intersteding. He later mets up with Mutt Williams, and his mother Marion Ravenwood from the first Indy film. They go out to find the crystal for themselves, while Irina and her crew have plans of their own.
To put it simply, Crystal Skull doesn't live up to the original films. Does it mean it's a bad film, no. The film does have it's flaws, mostly from the script. As well as some other faults, most of which are seen throughout the second half of the film. But Indy does keep the charm, like in the way you see Harrison Ford become the character once again that will bring a smile to your face. And the direction of Sir Speilberg is in tip-top shape. Also, if you ask me, the special effects aren't too bad either. But I seem to have my own opinons.
Though, I do not agree with Rotten Tomatoes's whopping 79% percent, but I also do not agree with the fans doubts and complains. To me, they were expecting something greater than what they should. So this result to me is inevitable.
Overall, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull may not be the blockbuster Iron Man was, but it is a descent time at the theaters. And is a movie to just kick back, try to forget (or forgive) it's faults and have a fun time. George Lucas warned the fans beforehand to not get their hopes up too high, so they probably deserve this.
